Auschwitz I Gallows Where Hoss Hanged

This is the gallows where Auschwitz’s longest serving camp commandant Rudolf Hoss was hanged on April 16, 1947. Hoss was one of the few Nazi war criminals ever brought to justice. Most of the SS personnel who participated in the murder of over one million people at Auschwitz-Birkenau lived full lives following the war and were never brought to justice.
